FDA Issues New Warning for Dog Owners

Last week the FDA issued a "warning" for pet owners and we wanted to pass this on to you. We actually have issued this warning in the past as we had seen it as a problem in our veterinary hospitals and emergency clinics.

Xylitol is an ingredient found in many over-the-counter products such as gums, chewable vitamins, and many other products made for human consumption only.

Ingestion by dogs can be toxic. Find out more. Go to xylitol toxicity in dogs http://tinyurl.com/4uxo8oq This article will tell you about other products xylitol is used in and symptoms you should worry about.

By the way - xylitol is also toxic to ferrets. Please pass this newsletter on to other dog and ferret lovers. It is probably also toxic to cats but because cats are more discriminating in what they eat - it has not been as documented or recognized.

Also - take a look at the FDA list of other problem products. Go to: http://www.petplace.com/health-alerts-pet-product-and-food-recalls-by-fda/page1.aspx
